Everything changes eventually — and that’s a good thing

Switzerland is my home, and the Swiss mountains leave a deep mark even on a city person like me. What has been shaped here over thousands and millions of years is fascinating.

Plate tectonics slowly but steadily pushed up the Alps. Glaciers carved the valleys and worked the peaks. Together they formed a landscape that captivates us and lets us dream. Here, looking from the Rhône Glacier down towards the Rhône and along the Furka Pass road, that landscape shows itself in all its facets.

Climate change and our own actions are now changing this landscape again, and at a rapid pace. That is certainly frightening. But it also gives me hope. Humanity will have to find solutions, and it will. We are already working on them more than ever.

These solutions won’t only protect the climate. They will enrich our lives and renew our closeness to nature. It may take some time before we get there — but we will get there.
